It’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to get out and go birding which is making it hard for me to reach my goal of 100 birds this year! However, I was able to randomly pick up two birds in the last month or so. I found a Cooper’s Hawk when I was at a youth retreat in Ancaster and then saw a Brown Creeper creeping up a tree while I was out walking with my family earlier this month.
Today I got out in the late afternoon. I had heard there was an Eastern Screech-Owl nearby and went to check it out. After walking around for some time and seeing some Mallards, a Belted Kingfisher and few songbirds, it was starting to get dark so I had given up trying to find the owl. As I was heading back to my car, I raised my binoculars to look at a hole in a tree. Alas, there was no owl, but I decided to follow the tree with my binoculars and stumbled across the Eastern Screech-Owl! Of course, it was getting dark by this time so I couldn’t get a great picture, but this one’s my best. Finding the owl made my day!
